A wake is a type of ceremony and gathering that takes place after the death of a loved one. Traditionally, these took place in the home of the deceased, but they might also take place at the funeral home. During a wake, loved ones visit with the body of the deceased, saying their final goodbyes and offering comfort to the family. These are still a common practice in many religions and cultures.
