How to Delete Your Personal FedEx Account
When you’re ready to delete your FedEx account, you might think that deleting your account is the same thing as deleting your profile. These are two different things. However, at this point, FedEx has not provided a method for deleting profiles, only accounts. These are the steps to take when deleting your personal account.
Step 1: Finish all FedEx business
If you have packages you’re tracking, packages you’re sending, or any bills due on your account, these will need to be taken care of first. All packages sent through your account number must arrive and be accounted for. Packages you’re tracking or that you’ve changed receiving addresses for will need to be received. And all bills must be paid. Until your account shows a zero balance, you’ll be unable to delete your personal FedEx account.
Check to see what packages are outstanding, what bills you need to pay, and any other ongoing shipments are tracked. Wait until these items have been resolved, then move on to the next step.
Step 2: Log in to your account
Once you’re ready to delete your account, you’ll need to log in. This is the only way you can make changes to your account. From your account page, you’ll see a listing of all accounts you’ve set up with FedEx.
If you’ve set up multiple accounts, choose which account you want to delete. FedEx makes it easy to delete one account while leaving other accounts fully functioning. This way, you can delete your account, for example, while leaving your spouse’s account up and running if they are both under the same profile you use to log in.
Step 3: Choose the account you want to delete
If you have more than one account, click on the account you want to delete. When you hover the mouse over the correct account, you’ll see a small “x” show up to the right side of the account number.
Click this “x” to delete the account.
Step 4: Confirm deletion
After you click the “x,” a pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm account deletion. Click “yes” to confirm.
A confirmation of deletion email will be sent to the email associated with your account. Keep this email for your records.
Step 5: Call FedEx customer support
After you delete an account number from your profile, you need to take one final step and call FedEx customer support.
Deleting an account number from your profile doesn’t fully remove the number from FedEx’s system. For this, you’ll need to call their support line at 1-800-GoFedEx or 1-800-463-3339.
When talking with a member of the support staff, express your desire to permanently delete the account number from the system. They will ask several security questions to confirm you are the account owner and will then delete the number from the system.
How to Delete Your Company FedEx Account
Deleting a company FedEx account is just as simple and straightforward as deleting a personal account. Follow these steps and you’ll be finished in no time.
Step 1: Wrap up all pending transactions
You can’t delete a company account until all pending transactions and bills have been finalized. This means that packages in transit must be received, packages in transit to you need to be signed for, and any outstanding bills you owe to FedEx have to be paid.
Check your account for a full list of all pending or in-process transactions and wait until they are finalized to move on to the next steps.
Step 2: Log in to your company account
Once all pending and in-process transactions have processed, and your billing statement is at a zero balance, log in to your company account.
From the account screen, you’ll see options on the left-hand side including a tab for company settings, groups, and users.
Step 3: Remove groups and users
Before you can close an account down, all groups and users must be deleted from the system.
Click on the “groups” tab to see a list of groups under the account. One by one, hover over each group until an “x” appears to the right of the group. Click on the “x” and a pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm deletion of the group. Click “yes” to confirm. Repeat this with each group under the account.
After you remove all groups, repeat the process for users. Click on the “users” tab on the left side of the screen. You’ll see a list of all users under the account. Hover over each one until an “x” appears to the right of each user. Click the “x,” and a pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm deletion of the user. Click “yes,” and the user will be deleted. Repeat this for all users until none remain.
Step 4: Delete the account
If you have more than one account under your company profile, you have the option to delete one or all accounts.
Find the account you want to delete and hover over it. An “x” will appear to the right of the account name. Click the “x,” and a pop-up screen will appear, asking if you want to delete the account. Click “yes” to confirm and the account will be deleted.
How to Delete a Deceased Loved One’s Personal FedEx Account
Closing your loved one’s accounts is an important thing to do when someone dies. This helps keep their information and their accounts safe from hackers that might try to take advantage of an unused account. Thankfully, deleting your loved one’s FedEx account is relatively simple and uncomplicated if you follow the steps below.
Step 1: Find their account information
If you can find your loved one’s account information, then you may be able to log on to their profile and shut it down by following the steps written about above. This means you’ll need access to the email address associated with the account and password they used.
Finding passwords to accounts like these can be tricky. One place to search is their password manager. Simply search records for FedEx and see what comes up.
If you can’t find their log-in information, then you’ll need supporting information when you talk with FedEx customer service including the associated email, billing address, and credit card on file. Look for these pieces of information in their email inboxes and credit statements. Search for any FedEx communications or billing statements to determine which email address and billing numbers are on file.
Step 2: Gather supporting documents
If you need to call FedEx to close your loved one’s accounts, it’s a good idea to have supporting documents on hand including your loved one’s death certificate, proof of your executorship, and proof of your ID.
Getting a death certificate is relatively simple, and you can obtain multiple copies at a time by asking the funeral director to get several copies for you or by contacting your state’s Vital Records Office. It’s always a good idea to get several copies since you’ll need them to access bank accounts and close down digital accounts.
Proof of your executorship includes documents such as a copy of your loved one’s will naming you executor, a copy of a court document naming you executor, or letters of testamentary. You’ll need this for nearly anything you do when fulfilling your executor duties.
Proof of your ID includes items like a current driver’s license, passport, or military ID.
Step 3: Call FedEx
Once you’ve collected as much information as you can, call FedEx customer support at 1-800-GoFedEx or 1-800-463-3339.
When on the phone, you’ll be asked to provide information applicable to your loved one’s account including the email on file, credit card on file, and related information. You may also be asked to provide a copy of their death certificate and proof of your executorship via email.
Should all things proceed regularly, you’ll be able to close your loved one’s account while you’re on the phone with the FedEx customer service representative.
How to Delete a Deceased Loved One’s Company FedEx Account
If your loved one had a company FedEx account and you can log in, follow the same instructions as you would for closing your company account.
If you can’t log in to their account, you’ll need to call FedEx with as much account information as possible. In addition to the documents mentioned above when closing your loved one’s personal account, collect billing statements under the company name, any company-specific transactions, and other related information to help the FedEx employee locate the account.
Once you’ve collected as much information as possible, call FedEx support at the number above and they’ll walk you through the process of closing your loved one’s company account.
Cleaning Up Unused Accounts
Taking care of unused accounts or closing the accounts of a loved one is one simple way to keep your and their information safe. While this doesn’t have to happen right away after someone passes, it’s an important part of your executor duties when taking care of your loved one’s estate.
