Probate court is a type of court that specializes in property and debts of those who died. A probate court serves many purposes, but they mainly interpret wills and assure the deceased person’s debts are paid. Distributing assets amongst next of kin is often a tricky affair. Family emotions are understandably high after the death of a loved one. Probate court is the mediator to help everyone through this difficult time. If a will is ever contested, a probate court is responsible for ruling on the authority of the document.
