When you try to thank friends and family members for their help, they may try to wave it off. After all, friends and family are supposed to help, right?

But it’s still important to show them some gratitude. Here are some messages and actions they’ll appreciate.

1. “I’ve always had a really hard time asking for help. I appreciate so much that you recognize when I’m struggling and ask how you can support me. You’re a really amazing friend.”

Some people don’t know how to ask for help. Because of this, they may wind up floundering personally or professionally. If you’re lucky enough to have a friend who sees when you need help and steps up for you, it’s worthy of appreciation.

2. “Now that I’m a parent, I really understand what a difficult job it is. Thank you for being such an amazing dad. I’m grateful to have you in my life.”

Sometimes something happens in life that gives you a new perspective. You may realize you owe someone gratitude for acts that happened long ago. It’s never too late to reach out and say thank you.

It’s more tangible than a verbal thank you. It shows you’re appreciative enough to make an extra effort. If the note’s recipient is the sentimental type, they may even want to hold onto it to revisit in the future.   

5. Give them a special gift

When friends and family members help us out, they usually don’t expect anything in return. In fact, if you make gestures to compensate them, they may refuse. In that case, you can always get a special gift for them. I

If you notice you’re constantly writing about the actions of a particular friend or family member, let them know you appreciate them.

Email helps us keep in touch with friends and family all over the world. It is also a fast way to communicate a message to a colleague. If you want to send someone a formal thank you but you’d like it to get to them quickly, an email is a great format to use.
