Full-Time Positions

CTO

$180k – $240k per year, 0.5% – 3.0% equity

This is a dream opportunity for an empathetic leader to help lead the transition of the funeral industry from a mostly offline industry to one that enables people to engage online and have a better experience This person will lead our team of developers and be a valuable part of the C-suite, contributing to company strategy.

Ideal candidate is in commuting distance from Boston area and has previous experience working in a venture-backed consumer technology startup. This is a mostly virtual/work-from-home (WFH) role with an expectation of meeting with the C-suite in person 1/week.

Team Lead/Developer (.NET/Azure)

$140k – $210k per year, 0.05% – 1.5% equity

We are looking for someone with a player/coach mentality to join our Development Team. This is a great opportunity for someone with CTO and engineering leadership aspirations to take the next step in their career. You should have experience both as an individual contributor as well as a manager and leader. You will be the main counterpart to our Senior .NET Developer and the team lead for our Dev Team (2 FE, 1 BE), as well as a valuable contributor to Cake’s Leadership Team.

Ideal candidate is in commuting distance from Boston area and has previous experience experience in software engineering with .NET Core and Azure; ideally in an early-stage, venture-backed consumer technology startup. This is a mostly virtual/work-from-home (WFH) role with an expectation of meeting with the C-suite in person 3-4 times/month


Responsibilities:

  • Planning the overall architecture and future technical direction of the platform. Be able to define and communicate the overall technical strategy of the product.
  • Be responsible for making joincake.com fast, reliable, and secure. Collaborate with dev team to identify ways to improve tooling, automation and site performance.

Lead .NET Developer (Azure/Infrastructure)

$140k – $180k per year, 0.05% – 1.5% equity

We are looking for an experienced .NET Developer with Microsoft Azure experience to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for creating new backend code (C#/ASP.NET), maintaining and optimizing our data structures (SQL/EF) as well as owning our Azure infrastructure (AppServices, SQL, AppInsights, etc). You will also be responsible for the overall architecture of the application. As we are a small team, there is ample opportunity for growth into leadership.


Responsibilities:

  • Be part of the development team and contribute code changes to our backend code during normal sprint cycles
  • Maintain and grow our Azure and 3rd party service infrastructure as needed
  • Participate in weekly sprint check-ins and work with Product Management to right-size tasks in your area
  • Create/maintain a scalable application architecture
  • Optimize backend infrastructure (code, data structure and services) when you see the opportunity to do so
  • Make sure our site is fast, secure and reliable


You have:

Product Lead/ Director of Product

Your role:

  • Work closely with leadership to take charge of product development
  • Drive the overall product strategy and vision for Cake to meet business goals including high-level product planning, roadmaps, etc.

Product Designer (UI/UX Designer)

We are seeking a full-time User Experience Designer to help us change the way people engage with death and end-of-life planning. This is a challenging topic for most people, so we are making it more human and approachable. This is an amazing opportunity to re-brand death.

The ideal candidate will be adept at translating customer and business needs into innovative well-crafted products. You know how to create product experiences exude empathy and help users to accomplish their goals in the most elegant and enjoyable way possible. Working closely with our Product Manager, you will follow an iterative design process to generate a slick and modern web app with engaging user interfaces that drive key business outcomes and user value.   • Lead the UX design of our customer-facing products including our numerous tools for navigating loss and end-of-life planning.
  • Focus on creating an engaging and intuitive user experience and rigorously testing your work via usability testing.
  • Create clean and descriptive wireframes and low to mid fidelity prototypes to be handed off to developers.
  • Draft functional/visual specs and flow charts to describe new features
  • Conduct user interviews, including recruitment and writing moderation guides
  • Work closely with our product and development team to help provide customers with a clear, simple experience within a space that’s historically emotional and hard to navigate.

Senior Data Analyst

We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst to help us change the way people engage with death and end-of-life planning. This is a challenging topic for most people, so we are making it more human and approachable. This is an amazing opportunity to re-brand death.

The ideal candidate will have experience collecting and analyzing data to provide valuable information for decision-making. Working closely with our CEO, CMO, and the Product team, you will help analyze datasets and present your findings to the team.

  • Query and analyze data from all areas of our company, compiling data from multiple sources
  • Create and maintain PowerBI data models and reports
  • Work closely with our product and operations teams to create and manage internal and client-facing data dashboards
  • Support operations by analyzing data for valuable trends and insights
  • Support product by setting up dashboards to monitor key metrics and analyze data to identify user trends and new opportunities for improvement
  • Perform statistical analysis of data, prepare reports, and present findings to the team in easy-to-understand formats

  • Data-driven with strong analytical skills

Senior Frontend Developer (React)

This posting is for the role of Front End Developer at Cake. You'll join our small team of developers and help us build the next iteration of our web application.

Our platform is built using technologies including HTML, CSS, React, .NET 5, SQL, and Azure. We're a close-knit team that works remote but stays in touch throughout the day via Teams.

  • Implementing provided layout and designs in HTML, CSS (SCSS) and JS (React).
  • Solid understanding of React architecture and best practices – hooks, context, Redux, functional components
  • Creating and maintaining reusable React components that we use to build our platform. Writing readable and efficient React and ES6 JS code
  • Experience with package bundlers and build tools such as Webpack, Gulp, Vite, etc
  • Experience in UI/UX design is helpful as you may occasionally be asked to make on-the-fly decisions that reflect the needs of the personas we build for.
  • Creating highly performant and responsive webpages. We have a growing mobile audience and experience in responsive web design is a must.
  • Understanding of accessibility and 508 compliance workflow and principles
  • Communicating with your team throughout the day and help your teammates out as needed. We use chat and video conferencing to communicate.
  • Work closely with our Product Team to provide solutions and estimates. We work in an Agile way and report on progress weekly.

  • 5+ years of professional CSS and JS development experience, ideally working on high-traffic websites and/or applications.
